In England when Queen Victoria went into deep mourning for her husband, Prince Albert, in 1861, her countrymen and much of the English-speaking world joined her. Black jewelry became required at Victoria's court and was popular elsewhere. Therefore, a coal-derived stone called jet, mined at Whitby, England was used to fashion jewelry until it became exhausted. Copies of jet jewelry in black glass, sometimes called French jet, became common and widespread.

Lots and lots of faceted French Jet beads are woven into a gorgeous band of elegance further accentuated by two lines of curvy gold tone stripes throughout the entire length making this necklace even more regal. The Fench Jet beaded insert clasp measuring 1" in diameter works great and closes with a snappy sound. This high quality necklace has a nice weight to it. It matches with almost any color clothes and will look especially nice on light skin tones. Excellent condition. US$88.00. SOLD.
